As anyone with their sea legs will tell you, it's never too early to get your ship together for the Rock River Anything That Floats Race, and now is a great time to start dreaming up your entry for the 2018 race, August 12. (Rain date August 19.)
Will you riff off Elon Musk's Falcon Heavy - or Han Solo's Millennium Falcon? Should you make a people-powered paddle wheeler or a pedal-powered prop driven marvel of modern engineering? Or, will you make a hydro-happy, sleek vessel to cut through the waves solely on the energy you and your teammates apply through your paddles or oars? Or will you put a premium on appearance and take your time enjoying a lazy float downstream on a spectacularly cool craft that's not built for speed at all? Get those conceptual wheels turning by checking out images of the rafts of yesteryear (including 2017!)
One thing is for sure: you and your teammates will have fun designing, building and racing your raft, whether you're building it for speed or beauty or both. Please keep your eye on this site for registration information, which will be coming soon!
We can't wait to see you on the river this summer.
