Volunteers Needed! Sea Goers and Landlubbers, too!

The Rock River Anything That Floats Race committee is 100% volunteer - and guess what? We're looking for more volunteers to help on race day in 2024. If any of these descriptions sound like a good fit, once volunteer registration is open, we will deploy an online form on this webpage to send our Volunteer Coordinator an email message. Fill that form out, tell us what task you can assist with, and help us bring back the tradition! You'll get a free meal, beverages, a t-shirt and a whole lot of satisfaction.

LAUNCH CREW: You must be able to lift 100 lbs and be a strong swimmer. The lifting 100 lbs part is relevant because you may be asked to help contestants place rafts in the water. The strong swimmer part comes in because we you may fall in and want to get back to shore.

VENDORS: Volunteer vendors will be asked to sell things. So, counting, making change and a cheery disposition are very helpful, as well as having something to sell.

GARBAGE: You must be able to lift 75 lbs. Of garbage. Also, although it’s not like you have to love garbage to help with this very crucial role, you definitely shouldn’t have an aversion to it. Garbage volunteers get extra pats on the back from organizers, of course!

PARKING: You must be patient. You must like people. You must have a sense of humor. And it would be helpful if you have a lot of sunscreen and are good at pointing and saying things like, “no, sorry, but you cannot park your car on the boat ramp.”

RACE OFFICIALS: Race officials. Hmmm. Race officials… Have you always wanted to be a hockey referee but didn’t want to bother with all the required classes and certifications? This job is for you!

BOAT REMOVAL: You must be able to lift 100 lbs (is there an echo in here?). You must not be repulsed by people soaked in river water. And you must be able to think fast on your feet…on a slimy boat ramp.

AWARDS CEREMONY: Have you longed to say stuff like, “well done, sir! For a moment there, I thought that raft was going to sink, but here’s your trophy!”? Sign up to be an Awards Volunteer!
